Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes Sued for Trademark Infringement

Kansas City Chiefs' Travis Kelce and **Patrick Mahomes**are facing a trademark infringement lawsuit from a sneaker company.

Kelce, Mahomes, and their restaurant partners for 1587 Prime were sued by the company 1587 Sneakers alleging trademark infringement.

Kelce and Mahomes opened 1587 Prime last year in partnership with Noble 33. The restaurant name is derived from the players' jersey numbers.

According to a report published by ESPN on Friday, Feb. 20, 1587 Sneakers started selling their products in 2023 but did not apply for the "1587" trademark until Oct. 2025. The trademark application is reportedly still under review by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Kelce and Mahomes applied for their trademark in 2023 and it falls under the bar and restaurant category whereas 1587 Sneaker's trademark is under clothing.

"I think it's a tough case for the sneaker company," trademark attorney Josh Gerben, who does not represent either party in the case, told ESPN. "Trademarks can coexist in different industries. … Given that the marks are essentially identical here, is a restaurant and a shoe company too close? Are consumers likely to be confused in thinking they are affiliated with one another?"

The sneaker company is alleging infringement not only on the identical names but also because 1587 Prime sells clothing along with food. They claim that customers have reached out to the company under the impression it is affiliated with Kelce and Mahomes' restaurant.

"From the onset, we have communicated a sincere belief that there is room for mutual respect and understanding," Adam King, 1587 Sneakers co-founder, wrote in a statement to ESPN. "That belief has not changed, and we continue to hope to resolve this matter amicably."
