Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics
There’s only one question on every Boston Celtics fan’s mind right now: when will Jayson Tatum be back on the court?
We’ve seen all the workout clips. All of the photographs from recent practice sessions. And we’ve watched all of the interviews. Yet, we’re still no closer to getting any idea as to whether he will be back on the court this season.
Well, the latest Amica Insurance commercial won’t answer that question for us, but it will certainly get us a little more hyped.
The commercial, which dropped on Sunday, Feb. 22, starts off with Tatum on crutches. He’s watching from the sidelines, with a clock counting down the days from 250. As the commercial continues, we get some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks at the work Tatum has been putting in on the court.
However, it’s the end of the commercial that you want to see. It wraps up with Tatum being introduced onto the court, wearing his number 0 jersey, in front on the Celtics fanbase at the TD Garden.
It’s the moment we’re all waiting for, including Tatum himself.
Ok, the commercial isn’t breaking any news. Nor is it teaching us anything. But it’s another “it’s getting closer moment.” The type of moment that has all of us sitting on the edge of our seats.
The 250-day countdown is also interesting. As of Feb. 22, it’s been 286 days since Tatum’s injury.
Tatum Is Unsure If He Will Return This Season
During a recent appearance on “The Pivot” podcast, Tatum made it clear that he’s not sure if he’s going to come back this season.
“That’s something I contemplate every day,” Tatum said. “More so about the team, if or when I do come back this season, they would’ve played 50-some-odd games without me. So they have an identity this year or things that they felt have clicked for them. And it’s been successful, right? Third or second team in the East up to this point. So there is a thought in my head that’s like, how does that work or how does that look with me integrating myself off an injury and 50-60 games into a season?”
Tatum continued.
“There could obviously be some challenges and it is a thought, like damn? Do I come back or should I wait? It’s something that I honestly, recently in the last two weeks or so, just kind of contemplate every single day.”
Only Tatum will know if he’s ready to come back this season. Until he makes that decision, all any of us can do is wait and see how things play out.
Tatum Has Missed The Celtics Fanbase
In a recent interview with SportsCenter, Tatum admitted that fan interaction has been what he’s missed most since his injury.
“It would be the fan engagement,” Tatum said. “I travel with the team. I go to all the games. Seeing all the fans in the stands with number zero and Tatum jerseys on makes me feel really good. There’s been a lot of low moments during this rehab process. And I just often think about running back on the court. Hearing the fans scream. That type of atmosphere and motivation.”
The fans are clearly missing him, too. Hopefully, he will be back on the court for the Celtics in the very near future.
