New Notre Dame DL coach Charlie Partridge ready to help Irish defense with DC Chris Ash

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Notre Dame has named Charlie Partridge as its defensive line coach ahead of next season, filling the vacancy left by Al Washington, who departed for the NFL to join the Miami Dolphins.

Partridge has served as the defensive line coach for the Indianapolis Colts since 2004 and brings extensive college coaching experience to the role.

Partridge and Notre Dame defensive coordinator Chris Ash were college teammates at Drake University and have worked together at four different stops throughout their careers.

“The nice thing with me and Chris is that we can disagree without it being personal and then come to an agreed upon solution onto whatever it is to move forward together,” Partridge said. “We really know each other. While we have been separate, we have both learned a lot. We have always communicated every year we weren’t working together so now the opportunity to bring things together and help Notre Dame’s defense is the end goal and I think we can do that well together.”

Notre Dame’s 2026 Blue-Gold Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at Notre Dame Stadium.
