Raptors denied Bucks what they’ve sought all season in disappointing 28-point loss

Sunday afternoon, the Milwaukee Bucks fell 122-94 to Toronto in their first post-All-Star-break home game. The defeat snapped the Bucks’ three-game win streak, preventing them from reaching four in a row for the first time all year. That, if it happens, will have to wait.

Despite the disappointing loss, the Bucks came into the contest playing much better of late. They had won six of of seven including victories over playoff-picture opponents in the Magic and Thunder. The defeat drops them to 24-31 on the season, but Milwaukee remains in 11th place in the East ahead of the earnestly tanking Bulls. Charlotte owns a 1.5-game lead for the final Play-in slot in 10th.

Sunday’s defeat halts Bucks’ momentum for now

All things considered, the beatdown doesn’t hurt as much as it might. There were still bright spots, if fewer and farther between as the game progressed. Cam Thomas did Cam Thomas things, scoring 15 bench points on 5-for-9 shooting. Checking into the game for the first time, he received an enthusiastic welcome in his Fiserv Forum debut.

Myles Turner also returned to the starting five, another positive. He missed a game on either side of the break managing a right calf strain. Turner provided 14 points and two blocks in 25 minutes.

Kevin Porter Jr. and Ryan Rollins led the team with 21 points apiece. While Rollins struggled to find his rhythm, Porter drew up a box score of pristine precision: 8-for-11 from the floor, 10 dimes, three steals, and one turnover.

Elsewhere the first unit, Kyle Kuzma and AJ Green didn’t quite hold up their end of the bargain. They combined to go 2-of-9 for six points.

After the home team claimed the first period 27-22, the Raptors ran up a 70-46 advantage in the next two quarters to seize full control of the game.

With just one-third of the season remaining, the Bucks may not get too many more chances to string together a four-game win streak. As Thomas said, though, “it’s winning time,” so hopefully they have another shot before too long. In order to make some noise in the playoffs, they’ll have to get there first, and that means stacking wins down the stretch.

Back to square one, Milwaukee will have an opportunity to get that first foursome started with a victory Tuesday evening against Miami.
