How Alejandro Garnacho’s minutes per game for Man Utd in 2024/25 compares to his current usage for Chelsea in 2025/26

Former Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho was determined to land a move to Chelsea. Is it a case of ‘be careful what you wish for’?

Alejandro Garnacho’s fall from grace has continued ever since he was sold to Chelsea in the summer.

Garnacho failed to win over former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, who left him on the bench for the Europa League Final.

Amorim’s decision sparked angry outbursts from Garnacho on social media and in the Argentine press, and the decision was made to sell the winger.

During the transfer window, Garnacho was determined to land a move to Chelsea and eventually got his way – but it has not worked out well for him.

Was Garnacho’s ‘attitude’ the issue, or is he just not suited to the Premier League’s top level?

Alejandro Garnacho’s declining usage

Alejandro Garnacho was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s 1-1 home draw with Burnley. They made five changes during the game, and the winger was not among them.

Garnacho last started a Premier League game in Chelsea’s win over West Ham. They were 2-0 down at half-time. He was taken off and they came back to win 3-2.

More United News

This season Garnacho is averaging just 52.6 minutes per game at Chelsea.

This compares unfavourably with the 65.1 minutes per game he played at Manchester United in 2024/25.

Specifically under Ruben Amorim, Garnacho still averaged 61.4 minutes per game last season.

He was so offended by his lack of consistent game time that he expressed his unhappiness on social media and was eventually sold.

Garnacho is learning that the grass was not greener on the other side.

He would have been better advised to look in the mirror, and use Ruben Amorim’s snub as motivation to bounce back stronger at United, rather than showing a sense of entitlement.

In the end it may have been a blessing in disguise for United that Garnacho was sold. He has scored only one Premier League goal all season for Chelsea, the worst return of his career.

Will Man Utd ever REGRET selling Alejandro Garnacho?

Garnacho’s Chelsea face United

The tale of Alejandro Garnacho’s time at Chelsea is not entirely written just yet.

Ever since he was sold, Garnacho will have had one fixture circled, Chelsea’s home game against Manchester United on April 18.

It could be a crucial one in the race for Champions League places.

Garnacho was an unused substitute when Manchester United beat Chelsea 2-1 earlier in the season.

If he does manage to get on the pitch at Stamford Bridge, he will be determined to make an impact.
