Leboeuf praises Arsenal star after Tottenham win
Former France defender Frank Leboeuf has heaped praise on Arsenal star Eberechi Eze for bringing out the best in teammate Viktor Gyokeres. He believes that the former Crystal Palace star allows the striker to be free, which helps him attack more and be efficient in front of goal.
Speaking on ESPN FC, Leboeuf said Arsenal's attack looks better when Eze starts behind Gyokeres. He praised the 27-year-old for his press and movements into the box and said:
“I’m very fond of Eze in the way that he pushes himself to go to the goal. Odegaard, whereas, is somebody who organises or distributes [the ball] in the game. What I like about Eze is that because he does that, he allows Gyokeres to be free and be more efficient as well. It suits the forward line better when you have Eze in the team.”
Eze spoke about working well with Gyokeres after the game, admitting they had spoken ahead of the North London Derby and that they were working hard in training. He added that the striker has been keen on doing well for the club and said (via club website):
“He's got so much energy. We spoke about it before, it's infectious when you have a player like that and he's working so hard. It makes you want to continue to work as hard as you can to see what he's given. He's an inspiration for all of us working towards what we want to achieve.”
Eze and Gyokeres scored a brace each as Arsenal defeated Tottenham 4-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, February 22.
Viktor Gyokeres replicated Arsenal star in Tottenham win
Viktor Gyokeres spoke to the media after his brace, saying that he rewatched Eberechi Eze's hat-trick against Tottenham earlier this season ahead of the North London Derby. The striker claimed that he was trying to replicate it on the pitch and said (via ArseBlog):
"In some aspects, it was a good one, but in others, I could have done a few bits better. It was a tough game and we showed much better things on the pitch. We do that a few times in training. I watched Eze’s goals against this lot in the last game, so I looked to replicate it a little bit. It was a nice goal."
Arsenal are now five points clear of Manchester City with 10 matches left in the season. However, Pep Guardiola's side have a game in hand, where they face Crystal Palace.
