Why Strasbourg fans couldn't display their anti-Chelsea banner during Lyon victory - journalist

The relationship between Strasbourg supporters and Chelsea owners BlueCo does not seem to be getting any better.

Strasbourg and Chelsea both fall under BlueCo’s ownership umbrella, which the latter have taken advantage of.

Following Enzo Maresca’s exit last month, the Blues were able to easily snatch Liam Rosenior away from their sister club and hire him as their new manager.

That and several other things have not gone down well at Strasbourg, whose fans tried to air their discontent at the weekend.

‘Chelsea’ not allowed on Strasbourg fans’ banner

Strasbourg supporters tried to take a banner into their game against Lyon on Sunday that read: “Chelsea doesn’t decide what’s going on at Strasbourg.”

However, journalist Lloyd Canfield has shared on X that the banner was not allowed into the ground because it had the word “Chelsea” on it.

In the end, those Strasbourg fans were still able to enjoy the night after watching their side beat Lyon 3-1.

They had a much better weekend than Chelsea, who threw away their 1-0 lead against Burnley right at the very end of the match.

Rosenior’s team still managed to climb into the top four, but they will drop out of it again if Manchester United earn at least a point when they face Everton on Monday night.

Out of the two clubs that Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali own, Strasbourg are having the better campaign.

How Strasbourg are coping without Liam Rosenior

Rosenior did a really good job at Strasbourg, which is why fans would have been frustrated when he was pinched away from them by their sister club.

Under Rosenior, the Ligue 1 outfit were able to qualify for the Conference League this season.

Strasbourg are still doing quite well under Rosenior’s successor Gary O’Neil, though. Right now, they are seventh in the table, meaning that qualification for European football is possible once again.

So far, O’Neil has won three league games, lost two and drawn one while in charge of Strasbourg.
