Both Man United and Arsenal are expected to make a move for him in the summer.

If the Red Devils do qualify for Europe, it will be a major boost, as they will generate more money, but also be able to attract the best players, who want to appear in the Champions League.

Left-back is a slight issue of concern, seeing as Luke Shaw is now 30, and Patrick Dorgu has switched position to more of a winger. It is understood that United want to sign a new left-back in the summer.

Man United and Arsenal lead the race for Nathaniel Brown

Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown has attracted a lot of interest from the Premier League in recent months. The 22-year-old German international is one of the most promising full-backs around, and Man United have been linked to him as a potential replacement for Luke Shaw.

According to Caught Offside, despite interest from Tottenham, Liverpool, and Barcelona, it is actually Man United and Arsenal who are ‘leading the way’ for Brown, and it is now understood that Frankfurt are bracing for several transfer moves in the summer.

The report includes that the Bundesliga side would like at least £57m for Brown, but he doesn’t have a release clause in his contract, so if he wants to leave amid the Man United interest, they could try and negotiate a lower fee.

So far this season, the 22-year-old has made 31 appearances for Frankfurt, scoring three goals and providing six assists. He has also made two appearances for the German national team because of his impressive Bundesliga form.

Brown suits Carrick’s formation

He came in and decided to change things for Man United, as Ruben Amorim played a three at the back formation, whereas Carrick returned to a back four. Brown is an attack-minded left-back, but he isn’t a wing-back, meaning that he would suit playing under Carrick in a back four.

It is understood that whichever manager Man United opt for, they will play a back four, as it is what the club wants, and the recent transfer interest in Brown shows that Man United’s intent is to strengthen with a view to playing a back four. Furthermore, seeing as Shaw is the wrong side of 30, it would be a shrewd piece of business if United could beat Arsenal to him.
