Jeremy Jacquet injury update: Return not guaranteed as Liverpool talks continue

Jeremy Jacquet is no guarantee to return from a serious shoulder injury this season, with Liverpool remaining in talks over the next possible steps for the centre-back.

Jacquet sustained a serious shoulder injury merely days after his summer transfer to Liverpool was rubber-stamped, with immediate concerns that his season was in jeopardy.

Updates on his status have since been sparse, but French journalist Francois Rauzy has since reported on X that the 20-year-old’s return “before the end of the season is not guaranteed.”

He then added: “Discussions ongoing with Liverpool on the health status of Jacquet and the next steps to follow regarding the central defender.”

French newspaper L’Equipe reported Jacquet may require surgery on the injury, but that has yet to be confirmed more than two weeks after he hurt his left shoulder.

As Liverpool have a £60 million deal agreed for the Frenchman to join in the summer, their involvement in his treatment is understandable as they seek the best course of action.

The specific details of the injury have not been confirmed, but recovery can stretch into a handful of months if surgery is needed, meaning he could arrive at Liverpool without playing competitively for five months.

There is currently no concern Jacquet will miss the start of pre-season in July, but a season-ending injury would require his fitness to be managed before increasing his training load.

The 20-year-old would have hoped to put his name in the frame for a World Cup call-up with France this summer, but that now looks off the table, meaning a move to Liverpool would not be delayed.

Liverpool are expected to start their pre-season at the AXA Training centre in early July, with reports they will then travel to the United States, with a friendly against Wrexham in New York mooted.

Arne Slot already lamented earlier this month that Liverpool have had zero luck with injuries, as “Even if we sign a player and he’s not even playing for us he gets injured!”
