Two Day Three Slot Receivers for Cleveland Browns in the NFL Draft

The best slot receiver in this draft class is Makai Lemon out of USC, but if the Cleveland Browns either take another wide receiver or an offensive lineman, they could still want to add more talent in that role to complement Harold Fannin.

The slot role is taking on increased importance in the current NFL. Teams aren't trying to find the next Wes Welker. They want bigger players that can create matchup problems and block in the running game.

As a result, the range of options is bigger and the position is more amorphous. Puka Nacua, Amon Ra St. Brown and Fannin are all included even if two of them are called wide receivers and one is labeled a tight end. Even then, Fannin is a move tight end, sometimes called an F.

That opens up a range of options for teams for how they want to match these types of players up in their offense. The Detroit Lions have an excellent setup with St. Brown and Matt LaPorta. They challenge defenses in different ways and cause all kinds of matchup problems while still helping the running game.

If the Browns don't take Lemon, there are a number of intriguing slot receiving options that could be had later in the draft. Of the two day three options discussed here, one is more in the traditional mold for the position while the other may be one of the bigger sleepers in this draft.
