Motherwell's marvellous form in the Premiership has been highlighted by an astonishing stat that shows when it comes to top flight football across Europe, the Steelmen possess one of the meanest defences.

The SPFL posted on social media that the club are now outperforming some of European football's giants when it comes to defensive records with the 18 goals they have conceded in the Premiership outperforming Real Madrid's tally in La Liga, Bayern Munich's total in the Bundesliga and Arsenal in the English Premier League.

While Motherwell have conceded 18 goals in 27 league games, Paris Saint-Germain have let in 19 in 23 games in Ligue 1, while Arsenal has conceded 21 goals in 28 games, Bayern 21 in 23 games and Real Madrid 21 in 25 games.

Only Serie A side Roma can boast a better record with 16 goals conceded in 26 games.

It also comes at a time when Motherwell has equalled the club's clean sheet record of 20 games.

Saturday's thumping 5-0 win over St Mirren made it 20 cean sheets in all competitions for Jens Berthel Askou's side and they have done so in 15 games fewer than the record set in the 2017/18 season.

The Steelmen's sensational form has them fourth in the Premiership but very much in with a shout in the title race, sitting 10 points adrift of leaders Hearts with a game in hand, four off third-place Celtic and six off of second-place Rnagers, with a game in hand, going into their final 11 matches of the campaign.
