LeBron James has a long memory.
And he hasn’t forgotten what Jaylen Brown was caught saying about LeBron’s son Bronny last summer.
Still, LeBron revealed that he and Brown have a solid relationship despite the shots fired.
“Our relationship has been pretty respectful despite the s--t he said about Bronny at Summer League, but other than that we’ve been alright,” the 41-year-old James told reporters following the Boston Celtics’ 111-89 win over the L.A. Lakers on Sunday.
Asked if they were able to get past that, James said, “We’ll be alright, we’ll be alright. Yeah, we’ll be alright.”
During Summer League, Brown was caught telling Kysre Gondrezick of the Indiana Fever on the sidelines of a game, “I don’t think Bronny is a pro.”
“I think he’ll be on the G-league team for sure,” she responded.
“I don’t think so, I think because of his name he’ll be on the Lakers,” Brown answered.
James conceded Sunday, “Bronny got a long way to go, but that’s another story.”
James credited Brown with helping to keep the Celtics in contention in the Eastern Conference despite the loss of Jayson Tatum to an Achilles injury last May.
Brown is averaging 29.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists for the Celtics (37-19), currently the No. 2 seed in the East.
“I think he just used the motivation of a lot people just saying they’re going to have a down year because JT being out....and he used it as motivation to keep them afloat,” James said. “They’re playing great basketball and it’s because of him and the rest of those guys. He’s taken that next step.”
He added that Brown deserves consideration for MVP honors: “JB is playing great basketball. This whole MVP thing, I don’t understand why his name is not being talked about as well.”
