The 2025-2026 season is all about development for the Brooklyn Nets. The team is all in on a new era and are building for a new era. Sean Marks and the Nets hope that the young talent find their way and grow into potential All Stars. So far, their draft picks from the 2025 Draft have provided reasons for optimism. However, their biggest move of the season involved their 2021 Draft pick.
Cam Thomas has been a point of contention since he was drafted back in 2021. Beloved by large portions of the fanbase, Thomas is someone that electrified the fans with his scoring barrages. However, the team struggled with him on the court for most of his Nets tenure. And after a rocky summer in which the team didn’t offer a long term contract, Thomas and the Nets were at a crossroads.
Thomas wanted to have a big season and secure a huge contract in free agency. The Nets wanted to see Thomas healthy and fully comfortable in Jordi Fernandez’s system. Nobody got what they wanted. As a result, Thomas was released and is now on the Milwaukee Bucks.
What’s next for the Nets?
Following a so-so trade deadline, the team is turning its attention to the NBA Draft. Brooklyn is in great position to secure a high lottery pick and land a potential franchise player. Before we get to the Draft, the team has to get through the rest of the regular season.
Recently, I joined Pete from the Nets Fans You Know podcast to discuss all things Brooklyn Nets!
There should be excitement for the Nets. The team has intriguing young talent, an engaged fanbase, and a great draft pick waiting for them this spring. As the team works to get better, they’ll be a team to watch in the not-too-distant future.
