Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Bo Lamar died last week. He was 74.
The University of Louisiana, where Lamar starred during his college career, [announced](https://ragincajuns.com/news/2026/2/16/louisiana-athletics-mourns-the-passing-of-dwight-bo-lamar) his death in a release.
Bo Lamar played for the Ragin’ Cajuns from 1969-73. He scored 3,493 points in his career and is a member of the school’s hall of fame.
Lamar led the nation in scoring in 1970-71 (36.0 points per game) and in 1971-72 (36.3 PPG).
He went on to play professionally in the ABA, as well as in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bo Lamar,” Louisiana Athletics Director Bryan Maggard said in a statement. “Bo was a true legend of Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball, and his remarkable career brought pride and excitement to our university and to the countless fans who filled Blackham Coliseum to watch him play.
“His legacy continues to inspire generations of Ragin’ Cajuns. We extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to the Lamar family during this difficult time.”
Bo Lamar earned first-team All-American honors twice during his college career.
During his only season with the [Lakers](https://www.pennlive.com/topic/los-angeles-lakers/) in 1976-77, he averaged 7.1 points and 2.5 assists across 71 games.
After retiring from basketball, Lamar later became a radio analyst for Ragin’ Cajuns games.
