Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ immense popularity is due to more than just his football talent.
I spoke last year with people around the country who had included Mahomes in a parent’s obituary. Those folks weren’t Chiefs fans, they were simply enamored with Mahomes’ skill and thought his good nature came through in interviews.
Mahomes’ interactions with his kids undoubtedly helped make people cheer for him. Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, the Current co-owner, have three children: 5-year-old Sterling, 3-year-old Bronze and 1-year-old Golden.
Over the weekend, the couple had a birthday party for Sterling, and Brittany Mahomes shared photos from the day on Instagram. We got to see a cute photo of Patrick Mahomes reading to the kids and having a good time without the need of crutches.
That seems to be a good sign that Mahomes’ rehab from knee surgery is going well. Chiefs coach Andy Reid on Friday talked about Mahomes’ progress.
“He’s around here all the time, spends a ton of time here,” Reid said. “Seven hours a day. He’s in there cranking away, making progress every day. It’s great to see.”
