Where the Sacramento Kings roster stands after adding Hayes & Baldwin

The Sacramento Kings are entering an evaluation phase as they search for direction, meaning the time is now to kick the tires on potential additions.

Sacramento started that process by signing former top-ten NBA Draft pick Killian Hayes to a ten-day contract on Sunday in a move that gives the Kings another guard in a rotation that has been ravaged by injuries.

Hayes, the seventh pick in the 2020 draft, has struggled to find his footing at the NBA level, but was enjoying a strong season in the G League before being picked up by Sacramento.

Over 28 games with the Cleveland Charge, Hayes averaged 23.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 8.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game on 47/32/80 shooting splits.

The Kings also added to their front court over the weekend by signing former first-round pick Patrick Baldwin Jr. to a two-way contract.

Sacramento had an open two-way contract slot after converting surprise rookie big Dylan Cardwell to a standard deal earlier this month, and now the seven-foot Baldwin will join the Kings for the rest of the regular season.

The 23-year-old forward has also struggled to break through in the NBA, but was in the midst of a strong G League season with the San Diego Clippers, averaging 21.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game over 18 appearances.

Baldwin was selected by the Warriors with the 28th overall selection in the 2022 NBA Draft following one year of college basketball at UW-Milwaukee.

Injuries are stacking up for the Kings, as they will be without star guard Zach LaVine (hand), center Domantas Sabonis (knee), and forward De’Andre Hunter (eye) for the remainder of the season, opening the door for younger players on the roster to get extended reps.

Cardwell (ankle sprain) will also be sidelined for an extended period, but is expected to return in mid-late March.

Here’s a look at the current Sacramento Kings roster after adding Hayes and Baldwin.
