“Don’t Trade Olb Kayvon Thibodeaux”: New York Giants Insider Warns Franchise To Not Trade…

The New York Giants have many interesting roster decisions to make this offseason. One of the biggest decisions that New York may have to make this offseason is whether or not to trade Kayvon Thibodeaux. He was drafted in 2022 (first-round selection) and has played in the NFL the last four seasons. Thibodeaux will be entering the final year of his rookie contract.

He is one of the key parts of the Giants defense. Thibodeaux is 25 years old. During the 2025 season, recorded 25 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two pass deflections. There are some New York fans who would not mind see him traded to another team to make room for Abdul Carter, but some people think it would be a major mistake if they decided to trade him.

New York Giants Insider Believes That the Franchise Should Not Trade Kayvon Thibodeaux

Dan Duggan of the Athletic covers the Giants and he believes that the franchise should have a 10-step plan this offseason. One of the steps involves Thibodeaux. Duggan said,

“Don’t trade OLB Kayvon Thibodeaux

Thibodeaux is certainly not untouchable; the Giants should listen to offers. If a team offers a Day 2 pick for Thibodeaux — well, it was nice knowing you. But that’s unlikely for a player who had 2 1/2 sacks in 10 games last season and is due $14.8 million in 2026 on his fifth-year option.

Giving Thibodeaux away for a Day 3 pick isn’t worth it. The team is finally in position to try to win. Thibodeaux is a quality player at an inflated, but not unreasonable, salary who helps make the pass rush the strength of the defense. While a bit of a luxury, he’s an asset as the No. 3 edge rusher. If the Giants trade Thibodeaux, edge rusher would suddenly become a weak spot if Burns or Abdul Carter got injured.

Thibodeaux’s long-term outlook is murkier. It’s hard to envision a lucrative second contract with the Giants, but perhaps he could help facilitate the adoption of the Ravens’ compensatory-pick approach in free agency next offseason. The Giants can worry about that next year. For now, they shouldn’t weaken the roster’s biggest strength in exchange for minimal draft capital.”

If Thibodeaux does well in a prove it year for the Giants, maybe they will give him a new contract. If not, then they can let him walk after the 2026 NFL season. It would not be a surprise to some people if New York did trade him. With that being said, Thibodeaux should be a huge piece of this defensive unit next season.
