Former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet has cautioned Cole Palmer against signing for Manchester United. Speculation surfaced in recent weeks suggesting the England international was considering leaving Stamford Bridge and returning to the North West.
Claims emerged that the Red Devils held an interest in the ex-Manchester City forward, while social media behaviour hinted he could relocate to Old Trafford and join the club he grew up supporting.
Palmer was reportedly unsettled in West London, though Liam Rosenior dismissed this suggestion at the end of January and confirmed the 23-year-old remained content with the Blues.
Poyet, meanwhile, has cautioned Palmer about transferring to the Red Devils, arguing they no longer possess their former dominance and that Chelsea operate more effectively as a club.
Speaking to football.london via Premier League betting odds site BetWright, he said: "I wouldn't, if I was him.
"I'm not saying this because I played for Chelsea, because this is not the United from Sir Alex Ferguson. People that say, 'It's still Man United,' I'm sorry, no. The last five years, six years? No [it's not the same].
"So I think Chelsea now is a better club, structure and more consistent than United. I'm not British, maybe sometimes for British people or for the players, Man United is still the biggest club, fair enough but I wouldn't say that.
"Now, then there is a situation with his position at Chelsea, that is a process. He likes to play in a certain position, he left Man City because he was playing wide and playing a little, and now he's back to the wide position.
"I really hope he doesn't get upset, he's performing and he's happy, because if not, obviously that can't help. So let's see what happens at the end of the season, especially in the World Cup, because I think he's a player of, incredible, incredible quality and Chelsea needs him to stay."
Palmer has also faced questions surrounding a return to Manchester, pouring cold water on recent reports after a hat-trick against Wolves earlier this month. He said: "Everyone loves to chat rubbish, don't they? I don't pay too much attention to it.

"You see things. But I feel like I've come from a strong place anyway so I don't pay attention to it. Life under Liam is amazing, he gives us all confidence.
"Lets us be ourselves, play free. I'm sure when I'm back proper fit you'll see the best of me. Him and all the staff give us all confidence on the training pitch, with his strategies, the way we play...I really like it."
