Whenever he does choose to end his career, Kevin Durant will leave the NBA as one of the best players, and specifically scorers, in league history. However, any potential retirement appears to be far away, based on the latest announcement Durant made.

According to Vincent Goodwill of ESPN, Durant, age 37, announced he planson playing in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

“Hell yeah, I want to play,” Durant said. “I would love to, but I gotta stay on top of my game.I’m not expecting,I want to produce on the floor and make Grant and whoever is making the decisions, want to put me on the team. I don’t want — not just for seniority. I wantto still prove I can help the team win.”

Durant is a four-time Olympic Gold Medal winner and is Team USA’s all-time leading scorer in international play, breaking the record during the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Kevin Durant Makes Major Announcement, Plans On Playing In 2028 Olympics

While questions remain in the futures and potential retirements of LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and other players from Durant’s era, the Slim Reaper has no plans of ending his career anytime soon.

While James and Curry both said the 2024 Olympics would be their last appearances in international play on the former’s Mind The Game podcast, that doesn’t appear to be the case for Durant, as he hopes to continue his legacy as the most prolific Team USA basketball player in history.

“You guys, the media have projected that,” Durant said. “That narrative, where did the last dance thing come from? I didn’t say I wasn’t playing. LeBron said he wasn’t. You didn’t hear that from me or Steph.”

Durant added that he didn’t appreciate the narrative surrounding American players on the international basketball stage compared to those in Europe. AUU circuits have been a recent subject of criticism with the supposed impact they have on American players compared to those from Europe and other countries, but the Rockets‘ star sees it in a different light.

“I just don’t like the talk around the USA versus European style of how you approach the game,” he added. “All I hear is, ‘AAU is destroying the game, the Euros do it right while the Americans do it wrong.’

Durant was a key part in the 2024 Olympics, as Team USA won Gold, defeating a Victor Wembanyama-led France team in Paris in a dramatic final game of the tournament.

“‘France is coming for you.’ Really?” he asked. “We smacked them boys.”

To be fair, the Gold Medal game came down to the final minutes and required some legendary shot-making from Curry, but as it relates to the USA’s dominance in international basketball, Durant’s point stands.

Kevin Durant Burner Accounts

While the announcement that Durant plans on playing at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, the Houston star has been in hot water recently for a report alleging that hewas making profane comments about both current and former teammates from an X burner account.

Some of the players Durant allegedly mentioned were Devin Booker, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Curry, Alperen Sengun, and Jabari Smith Jr.

The report emerged over the All-Star break, and specifically during the Sunday night marquee event of the All-Star Game. Durant was seen on his phone during warmups, with fans speculating it was him reacting to the news that his burner account hadbeen leaked.

The latest rumors are not the first time he hasbeen alleged to be using a burner account, but according to the Rockets’ forward, as he did not address whetherit washim sending the messages or not, he doesn’t think it will impact the team going forward.

“I’m not here to get into Twitter nonsense,” Durant told reporters last week. “My teammates know what it is, we’ve been locked in the whole season.”

For now, Durant and the Rockets are pushing for a top-four seed in the Western Conference to clinch home-court advantage for the playoffs. Currently, they have a 34-21 record and are coming off a fourth-quarter comeback loss to the New York Knicks.
