Ruben Loftus-Cheek has taken to social media to update fans on his health as well as showcasing the gruesome effects of the clash that led to him being stretchered off in AC Milan's game against Parma.

The midfielder, 30, was hurt in a collision with Parma goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi when challenging for a cross in Sunday's Serie A game. Loftus-Cheek was put in a head and neck brace and required lengthy treatment before being taken to hospital, with reports outlining that he had broken his jaw and several teeth.

Loftus-Cheek shared a picture of himself after the incident with a swollen lip and front teeth missing as well as an update after emergency surgery, along with a message.

“It was a tough blow, but the worst is behind me,” the former Chelsea midfielder wrote in a post on his Instagram account.

“A heartfelt thanks to all the medical staff who supported me over these past hours with professionalism and care.

“A special thanks to all the fans for your countless messages of love and support: I’ve read them and they’ve given me incredible strength.

“Thanks to my team-mates: We are a team, we are a family.

“Now, forward towards our goals, strong and united, together.”

AC Milan released a statement of their own after the game, which they lost 1-0. It read: “AC Milan announce that Ruben Loftus-Cheek suffered a significant facial trauma yesterday, which resulted in a fracture of the alveolar process of the jaw.

“The player was admitted to the Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Clinic department of ASST Santi Paolo e Carlo, where today he underwent surgery performed by Dr Luca Autelitano.

“The operation to reduce and stabilise the fracture was completely successful. Ruben is doing well and has already been discharged.

The estimated recovery time is around eight weeks.”

While Loftus-Cheek is now on the mend, the injury and subsequent lay-off - which is estimated to be around two months - may have a detrimental effect on his chances of making England's World Cup squad.

The AC Milan star was seen as a contender to head off to the United States, Canada and Mexico with the Three Lions in June after being handed an international recall by Thomas Tuchel back in October.

His substitute appearance against Wales was his first game for England in over seven years.
