''More advanced': Jamie Carragher weighs in on major Liverpool change

**Alexis Mac Allister played the role of Liverpool saviour in their dramatic 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday which Jamie Carragher attributes to Arne Slot.**

Liverpool were dire for most of the game and even the most optimisic supporter cannot argue that it was a deserved victory. The Reds finished strong, but had Forest taken even one of their many chances, the game would have panned out differently.

It’s difficult not to be critical of Slot for this season’s collapse. The team that won the Premier League last season is a far cry from the side now on display.

Liverpool have certainly had bad luck with injuries and some dubious calls – but so too has every other team in England.

Yet, credit where credit is due, his change to Mac Allister’s role created more space and yielded more opportunities for the Reds.

Jamie Carragher discussed the game after full-time live on [Sky Sports](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U86C_JcJX-k), and he had words of praise for Slot.

_“The interesting thing with Mac Allister, I go back to what the manager did, he brought Curtis Jones in late, and it can’t have been easy for him, he had a poor first half,”_ said the former Liverpool centre-back.

_“He made that change with Curtis Jones going to right-back and Dominik Szoboszlai coming into midfield, but they didn’t change positions._

_“What happened was, Curtis Jones was almost playing the Wirtz role, then when he’s made the change, Szoboszlai went into the Mac Allister role and Mac Allister went higher up the pitch._

_“They are set-pieces if you like, the disallowed goal and the goal, but the fact that he \[Mac Allister\] was maybe in a more advanced role, credit to the manager who I think made great substitutions.”_
