“Expected to Monitor”: Kansas City Chiefs Eye Reunion With 8x-Pro Bowler

The Kansas City Chiefs need to address the wide receiver position in the offseason, as one player is facing ongoing legal issues and multiple players have expiring contracts. Rashee Rice is facing a civil lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend over alleged domestic violence, including allegations of strangulation and other violent behavior, and is seeking $1 million in damages. It remains unclear whether the NFL will suspend him next season. In addition, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton are scheduled to hit free agency, and all three could walk.

Given their current cap situation, the Chiefs may not be able to break the bank for a free-agent wide receiver and may need to settle for one at an affordable price.

The Miami Dolphins released Tyreek Hill last Monday, making him free to sign with any team without having to wait until the legal tampering window. He suffered a season-ending dislocated left knee and ACL tear during Week 4, and he may miss the start of the 2026 season. During Friday’s press conference, Andy Reid said the Kansas City Chiefs have not been in contact with Hill about a possible reunion at this time, as they are unsure about his progress and injury timeline.

“Listen, we go through everything and everybody. That’s how (general manager) Brett (Veach) does,” Reid said, via Nick Shook of NFL Network. “I don’t even know if Tyreek is healthy right now to do anything. So I’m sure he’s working hard on that part of it and trying to get that part all straightened out. Listen, we talk about everything. There’s nothing happening there, but we know that you know — that he’s out there and cranking away, trying to get himself back to where he can play, period.”

Tyreek Hill has recently been in Kansas City to visit family and continue his rehab. High-profile former teammates, including Chris Jones, have publicly called for a possible reunion with the eight-time Pro Bowler. According to Nate Taylor of ESPN, although the Chiefs have not been in direct contact with Hill at the moment, the team is expected to monitor his recovery and remain open to a reunion. Spotrac currently projects his next contract to be a two-year, $30 million deal.

“Two days later, Hill used his Snapchat account to show that he was back in Kansas City to visit family members and to continue his rehab. Of course, Hill’s profile photo showed him in a Chiefs uniform,” Taylor said.

“While it’s uncertain if Hill will be available for the season opener, the Chiefs are expected to monitor the progress of his recovery and training, according to league sources.”
