Pelicans' point guard Dejounte Murray expected to return Tuesday vs. Warriors

The New Orleans Pelicans are getting one of their best players back.

Dejounte Murray is expected to make his season debut Tuesday when the Pelicans host the Golden State Warriors.

It’ll be the veteran point guard’s first game since he tore his Achilles late January of last season in a game against the Boston Celtics.

“I feel great mentally, physically and spiritually,” Murray said after Monday’s practice. “I’m just in a really great place. One of the greatest places I could be in in a long time, on and off the floor.”

Murray played in 31 games for the Pelicans last season, his first with the team after being acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks. He fractured his left hand in the season opener and missed the next 17 games. He played in 30 more before the season-ending injury.

Murray averaged 17.5 points and 7.4 assists in those 31 games last season. His best game as a Pelican came against the Utah Jazz when he scored 26 points to go with 11 assists and nine rebounds.

“We are just excited to have him back,” said Pelicans’ interim coach James Borrego.
