Moore’s death was confirmed on February 21, 2026, in his hometown of New Albany, Indiana. His dead body was found in the garage of his home in Ekin Avenue and is suspected to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy and investigation are pending, though it is suspected to be suicide.

Moore was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2021, and played three seasons for them. During that time he recorded 1,201 receiving yards from 135 receptions and had scored 3 touchdowns. He later missed the next two seasons due to injury, which could have contributed to his mental health issues.

NFL legend Shannon Sharpe talked about Moore’s death during the latest episode of his Night Cap podcast. He was in tears while talking about the player’s mental health problems, “You don’t know. I promise you. You don’t know. I can’t even begin to fathom the burden that that young man was carrying. My heart breaks for his family, his friends, his loved ones… He thought this was his only way. This was the only way that the pain would go away.”

He added, “Something so hard, so heavy, that someone would take their own life, reportedly. You don’t know how bad pain is… Until you walk the mile in that man’s shoes, you have no earthly idea.” The former tight end’s response has brought attention to players mental health issues with the NFLPA releasing a statement.

NFLPA releases statement on Rondale Moore

With the death of Moore and his supposed mental health problems being talked about, the NFL Players Association has decided to release a statement to mourn the player.

The statement read, “The NFL Players Association is devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Rondale Moore. This immense loss is felt deeply across our union, and we value his service as a player rep. Our condolences and prayers are with Rondale’s family, teammates and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. In moments like this, we are reminded of how much our players carry, on and off the field.”

The statement further asked other players to reach out if they are struggling, “To our members: Please know that support is always within reach. Check on your teammates and prioritize your mental health. If you or someone you know is struggling, we encourage you to take advantage of the many confidential resources and services available to you through the NFLPA.”
