Patriots Urged To Sign 14-Year Veteran Guard To Shake Up Offensive Line

The New England Patriots should consider making some adjustments to their offensive line this season. The Athletic's Chad Graff may have a solution to improve the interior offensive line.

Graff believes shifting left guard Jared Wilson to center could be a strategic move for the Patriots to consider.

"Moving Jared Wilson to center seems like the simplest option, though it’s worth noting that Wilson struggled there early in training camp last year," Graff wrote on Monday.

If the Patriots decide to move Wilson to center, they will need to seek a new left guard. Graff believes that veteran Kevin Zeitler could serve as a solid one-year solution to fill that gap.

"If you do that, left guard becomes the biggest need, though that’s not a difficult position to fill," Graff added. "A mid-round draft pick could compete with a veteran for the job. Maybe you sign someone like 35-year-old Kevin Zeitler to a one-year stopgap deal while hoping to develop, say, a fourth-round pick."

Zeitler has had a long career in the NFL, completing his 14th season last year. He has been remarkably durable, playing 15 or more games each season since 2015. Although he is nearing the end of his career, Zeitler still performed well last season with the Tennessee Titans, and Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 13th-best guard out of 81.
