Patriots (Unsurprisingly) Announce Release Of Veteran Contributor

The New England Patriots made a difficult roster decision on Monday.

New England announced the release of veteran running back Antonio Gibson.

Gibson, 27, spent the majority of the season on injured reserve, appearing in just five games due to an injury suffered against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 5. Gibson was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a kickoff for a touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 14.

It's an unsurprising move when considering the circumstances...

Gibson was entering the final season of a three-year deal he originally signed with New England in 2024, with zero guaranteed money remaining on the deal he was released in order to save the $2.85 million in base salary he was due to earn and $4.14 million he would have counted against the salary cap.

The Patriots will now have to find someone to work alongside Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, Terrell Jennings and Lan Larison.
