The ongoing stadium saga surrounding the Chicago Bears has drawn strong reactions from fans, politicians, and now a WWE World Heavyweight Champion with deep Windy City roots, CM Punk.
As debate intensifies over whether the Bears could relocate to northwest Indiana, CM Punk weighed in with pointed comments about the team’s direction and its ownership.
The franchise has explored options beyond Chicago, including a proposed $5 billion domed stadium near Wolf Lake in Hammond, Indiana.
Indiana lawmakers recently advanced Senate Bill 27 to help create a stadium authority and financing structure. The Bears described the move as “the most meaningful step forward” in their planning.
Punk, however, isn’t impressed.
CM Punk Weighs In on Chicago Bears Stadium Situation
“It’s not a smart idea. It’s not a good move,” he said when discussing the potential shift across state lines. While some have floated creative solutions, Punk jokingly suggested, “Maybe we can do like a one-for-one trade, like give us the Colts then. ‘Chicago Colts’ sounds pretty cool to me.”
The debate has become a three-way tug-of-war between Chicago, Arlington Heights — where the team owns a 326-acre property — and Indiana’s aggressive bid.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Park District has proposed a $630 million renovation plan to reimagine Soldier Field as a year-round event venue.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has also made clear that any agreement would require the Bears to address the remaining $500 million debt from the 2003 renovation.
Punk didn’t hold back on what he sees as the driving force behind the relocation talks. “All the reasons I know they don’t want to play there anymore are just straight greed,” he said, citing concessions and parking revenue structures.
He added a direct plea: “You got enough money, sell the team McCaskey, sell the team, please.”
Interestingly, Punk’s stance aligns with fellow WWE star Seth Rollins. Rollins, another die-hard Bears fan, recently dismissed the idea of a move. It may be one of the few times Punk and Rollins tag on the same side.
For now, the stadium drama continues — and so does the chorus from Chicago loyalists.
