Race for UCL after match week 27: Forecasting not good for Chelsea after slipping to 5th

The race for the Champions League spots is well and truly on, and it’s not looking great for Chelsea after the latest set of games.

Everton and Manchester United ended the games for match week 27 last night, with United winning 1-0 away from home through a Benjamin Sesko goal.

This meant that they went ahead of Chelsea in the Premier League, with the Blues slipping down to 5th now, hanging on to those UCL places by a thread.

Liverpool also won over the weekend, which means they are now level on points with Chelsea albeit goal difference keeping the Blues just ahead of them.

And as we know, Chelsea drew 1-1 with Burnley on Saturday afternoon, wasting a 1-0 early lead and dropping more points. So it’s not been a good weekend for Chelsea.

Arsenal and Villa up next

To make things worse, we play away at Arsenal next, and then Aston Villa. These two games have now become HUGE for Chelsea.

If we fail to get wins in either of these games, and those around us pick more points up, it could end up looking very bleak for Liam Rosenior’s side.

Forecasting does not look good

As you can see from the chart above, put together by The Athletic, Chelsea’s run of fixtures as we head towards the end of the season has been put second from bottom in terms of difficulty of the teams they have to face. That does not look good at all!

Of course, anything can happen in football, and the teams around Chelsea are all so inconsistent as well. So Chelsea could absolutely still get into those Champions League spots. And if they don’t do it in the league, they will just have to win the UCL to do it! We can dream.
