Several key players for Real Madrid enter Wednesday’s match against Benfica at risk of suspension, with six members of the squad one yellow card away from missing the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 should the Spanish side advance.
Those players are Álvaro Carreras, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Dean Huijsen, Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham.
Of that group, only Carreras, Tchouaméni and Vinícius are expected to start for Real Madrid this Wednesday. Bellingham and Rodrygo are still recovering from injuries, while Huijsen is dealing with minor discomfort that is likely to limit him to the bench.
Even if Madrid progress, the disciplinary situation will not reset for these players, leaving them still one yellow card away from suspension in the next round. That reality increases the likelihood that Arbeloa will eventually need to rotate his lineup and rely on replacements should Los Blancos continue their run in the competition.
