Mads Hermansen Reveals What Has Shocked Him Most About Axel Disasi After His "Amazing" Start To West Ham Loan

West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen has admitted he was stunned to hear that Axel Disasi had not played for over 9 months prior to his move to the London Stadium.

The Frenchman has been in excellent form since joining from Chelsea at the start of February, and speaking about the defender’s performances, Hermansen said:

“I actually asked Axel after the Burnley game when he last played, and when he said it was April, I was a bit shocked. He’s brought a lot of stability to the defence, and on the ball as well, he is really good. Together with Dinos (Mavropanos), I think he’s been amazing.”

Diasi had been frozen out after returning from his last loan spell at Aston Villa last summer. Before his debut for the Hammers against Burnley, his last appearance came for Villa as a substitute against Manchester City on April 22nd.

His record since joining West Ham

It is not surprising that Hermansen was shocked by how well Disasi has been performing. He has played four matches in all competitions for the Irons so far, with the team having conceded just one goal, and that was a 95th-minute equaliser by Manchester United.

The 27-year-old has shown no signs of lacking match fitness since his move, which is a testament to him and the training he did whilst frozen out of Chelsea’s first team. Get a West Ham pro training padded jacket from the Castore store here.

Hermansen’s improved form

Of course, Disasi is not the only player who should be credited with the club’s defensive improvement in recent games. The Chelsea loanee’s centre-back partner, Konstantinos Mavropanos, has been excellent as well.

Hermansen himself should not be forgotten either. After a disastrous start to his Hammers career, he has begun to turn things around with another good display against Bournemouth at the weekend.
