Club Slap £50M Price Tag On Chelsea Target As Blues Line Up Sanchez Replacement - Report

Sunderland will demand £50m for their goalkeeper Robin Roefs if Chelsea make an approach this summer, according to reports.

Writing on his Patreon, The Sun reporter Alan Nixon claims the Blues have identified the Dutchman as a target for the next transfer window.

They are weighing up potential replacements for current number one Robert Sanchez, and Roefs seems to be at the top of the list.

The 23-year-old has had an impressive debut season for the Black Cats, having moved to the Stadium of Light from NEC Nijmegen for £11.5m at the start of August last year.

How does Roefs compare to Sanchez?

There is very little between the two keepers in terms of save ratio, with Roefs having saved 71% of his shots in the Premier League this campaign, while Sanchez’s figure is nearly identical (70.8%).

The stats are actually weighted in Sanchez’s favour when we look at goals prevented. The Chelsea no.1 is overperforming, having conceded 2.7 fewer goals than his xG.

Roefs’ figure is not bad in comparison, but it is worse, having conceded 1.2 fewer than his xG during his first season at Sunderland.

Chelsea may need to replace another keeper

While Roefs appears to be a target for the number one spot, the Blues may have to seek out another backup goalkeeper as well.

Filip Jorgensen has recently returned to fitness after spending seven games on the sidelines due to injury, but the Dane reportedly pressed to leave Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window as he is not happy with being an understudy.

While his departure was not sanctioned last month, it could be a different story at the end of the season. It does look like it could be all change in the goalkeeper department this summer.
