Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson Makes Consequential Call Ahead of NFL Combine

Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson could be the top wide receiver off the board in April’s NFL draft, but he’s not going to improve his status even one iota during the Combine in Indianapolis this week.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic reported on Monday, February 23 that Tyson has made a critical decision ahead of the premier collegiate showcase due to an ongoing injury issue.

“Sources: Arizona State WR Jordyn Tyson won’t be doing any on-field workouts or testing at the NFL Combine,” Brugler wrote on X. “He continues to work his way back from his in-season hamstring injury.”

Tyson has been projected as high as a top-five pick, though his hamstring injury — and history of health issues in general — could cause him to drop down the board into the middle of the first round.

The New York Giants (No. 5), Cleveland Browns (No. 6), New Orleans Saints (No. 8), Baltimore Ravens (No. 14), Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 21) and Seattle Seahawks (No. 32) could all be in the market for a rookie wideout in the first round, according to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Media’s latest mock draft.

NFL.com scout Lance Zierlein wrote recently that Tyson’s best professional comp is Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders, who is a two-time Pro Bowler and has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in five of the six seasons in which he has played more than 10 games.

“[Tyson has] added size and improved his route running over the last two years, showing he can align at all three receiver spots,” Zierlein wrote. “He's not a blazer but has enough speed to work down the field. Also, he has the ball skills and body control to win above the rim with timing on 50/50 throws. Scouts say he puts in the time to absorb knowledge and hone his craft.”
