Report: Real Madrid scouts eyeing up Florian Wirtz and £52m Liverpool target compared to Pedri

Real Madrid are aiming to improve their midfield, and Los Blancos’ scouts have been looking at Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz and Kees Smit.

There has been much talk about the Spanish powerhouse signing Liverpool players in 2026.

Dominik Szoboszlai to Real Madrid has been mooted as a potential option, with the Hungarian said to dream of playing for the club.

Pick the more underrated Liverpool legend – Roberto Firmino or Jordan Henderson?

Real Madrid have shown interest in Alexis Mac Allister as well, with the Liverpool midfielder’s dad responding to links.

However, it now looks as though Real are also keeping an eye on Florian Wirtz, despite the German only joining the Reds in the summer of 2025 from Bayer Leverkusen for £116m.

A report from Spanish outlet Defensa Central claims that Enzo Fernandez, Pablo Barrios and Wirtz have all been highlighted by the club’s scouting department.

A deal for the Liverpool talent could prove difficult, given that he has only just moved to England.

But Madrid do have other targets in mind, one of which is Dutch midfielder Kees Smit, who has a £52m price-tag.

Liverpool have been linked with Smit, who has been compared to Pedri, for a while now, and it would make sense for Arne Slot to strengthen his midfield in the summer.

Florian Wirtz’s dream club is not Liverpool or FC Barcelona

Madrid moving for Wirtz would be difficult anyway, considering how important he is to Liverpool.

But the German may not actually want to secure a transfer to the Spanish capital, given his love for their bitter rivals FC Barcelona.

In an interview back in 2021, the 22-year-old actually named Barca as his dream side.

When asked if he had a ‘specific career goal’ during an interview with BILD in 2021, he said: “As a young boy, I always wanted to play for Barcelona.

“Nothing has changed about that, but until then, I still have some time.”

For Liverpool’s sake, though, let’s hope that dream has now faded.
