This came after the London side were mentioned as a suitor in Italy too, with Inter Milan having a buyback clause for the player.
The Nerazzurri sold the midfielder to Club Brugge, where the player is thriving. He has scored seven times in all competitions, assisting five times.
He’s impressed in the Champions League too, which is perhaps indicative of why Arsenal are interested.
Some background has now emerged on the Gunners’ interest and this comes from Italy.

Calciomercato report on the 20-year-old’s future, with Inter Milan keen on bringing him back.
The Serie A leaders can exercise the €23m buyback clause in the summer. The club are convinced about the idea, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan well past his prime. The youngster is seen as a replacement for the Armenian, who has struggled in the past few months.
At the same time, Inter are aware of interest from the Premier League. The report claims that Arsenal are sending an official to watch the Serbian in Club Brugge’s Champions League tie against Atletico Madrid tonight.
The Belgian side played out a 3-3 draw in the first leg of the play-off and Stankovic can have a bearing on whether they go through or not.
Arsenal need ‘indecent offer’
The report further clarifies that there is the possibility of Inter Milan re-signing Stankovic and selling him on in the summer.
Arsenal can have a chance of doing that and need an ‘indecent offer’ to execute the deal. The amount is not clarified but it would have to be over €23m. This would help the Nerazzurri earn a profit from the sale.
How Stankovic performs in the next few months can also dictate things. Even during his time with Inter U19s, he had a knack for goals from midfield. He is living up to that reputation and Arsenal are no strangers to having players of that profile.
