Inter Milan are believed to be interested in signing Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate, acting as a concern for the Reds after his improved form.
The Frenchman has been excellent over the past month or so, showing great mental strength after the sad recent death of his father.
Konate struggled badly earlier in the season, but he is now showing why Liverpool tying him down to a new contract is important, with his current deal expiring at the end of this season.
According to a new claim from L’Interista [via Caught Offside], Inter are keen on snapping up the 26-year-old from the Premier League champions this summer.
The Serie A leaders and recent two-time Champions League finalists have appeared as a new option alongside Real Madrid, even though a move to the latter is hopefully less likely than it was.
Ibrahima Konate must sign new Liverpool contract
There was a point earlier in the season when the idea of Konate leaving Liverpool didn’t feel like a bad thing, considering how poorly he was playing.
He has been so impressive of late, though, producing some immaculate performances at the heart of the defence, which hasn’t gone unnoticed with Virgil van Dijk:
“Obviously I want him to stay. He’s an important figure on the pitch. That’s what everyone sees but off the pitch as well, he’s one of the leaders. He’s outstanding and in my eyes, a world-class centre back. I can do only so much but it’s in the club’s hands, together with his agents and himself so let’s see what comes out of it but I have no influence otherwise on that.”
Hopefully, Konate sees his future at Liverpool and wants to be a key figure for many more years to come, and with all due respect to Inter, they shouldn’t be seen as the same level of lure as the Reds, or Madrid for that matter.
It is seemingly just a case of the France international being offered what he feels he deserves by the Reds, and if he keeps up his current level, that will only help him get what he wants.
