Chelsea have dropped an astonishing 19 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season, more than any other side by some distance.
The latest example of this occurring was the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Burnley, where they couldn’t capitalise on Joao Pedro’s opening goal in the first four minutes.
Their ability to hold onto the lead was greatly influenced by Wesley Fofana’s red card, and that has been a common theme throughout the season under both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.
How are we calling Arsenal bottlers? 🤦♂️
What does Liam Rosenior need to do to change this?

The Chelsea Chronicle has broken down every single occasion where the Blues have dropped points in the Premier League so far this season.
Every time Chelsea have dropped points from winning positions in the Premier League this season
Brentford 2-2 Chelsea
Maresca rotated his side heavily for this game, however looked as if he had gotten away with it when Moises Caicedo’s strike gave Chelsea the lead late on.
However, their failure to deal with Brentford’s long throw cost them late on, when Fabio Carvalho touched home from close range in added time.
Mark Clattenburg believes VAR made an error not disallowing this goal, but it ended up costing Chelsea points that would have seen them go top of the league.
Chelsea 1-3 Brighton
The Blues were in control of this one via Enzo Fernandez’s opening goal, however Trevoh Chalobah saw red eight minutes after half-time.
This allowed Brighton back into the game, with Danny Welbeck equalising 13 minutes from time.
The capitulation was completed in added time, with the visitors scoring in the 92nd and 100th minute to pile more misery on the Stamford Bridge faithful.
Chelsea 1-2 Sunderland
Taking the lead early on has not been a problem for Chelsea this season, and Alejandro Garnacho found the net just minutes in against Sunderland.
The recently-promoted side enjoyed an excellent start to the season, and made Chelsea their latest victims when they levelled in the first half.
It was more injury-time heartbreak for the Blues when Chemsdine Talbi scored with seconds to play as the Black Cats hit them on the break with seconds to play.
Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal
Chelsea were hit with another red card against the league leaders, however it wasn’t until after Caicedo was sent off when Chalobah opened the scoring.
The Blues were pegged back before the hour mark by Mikel Merino, but battled well and were arguably the better side in the game.
To say dropping two points is harsh here, but taking the lead against the best team in England is a luxury not many sides are afforded.

Chelsea 1-2 Aston Villa
Maresca’s side were in complete control in this game, finally taking the lead via Pedro.
Unai Emery’s decision to sub on Ollie Watkins changed the game though. He scored twice in the second half to stun Chelsea.
With Villa now favourites to secure a Champions League place ahead of the Blues, this result could prove pivotal in their end of season aims.
Chelsea 2-2 Bournemouth
The last game of 2025 unfortunately did not see the end of this trend. Bournemouth took the lead early, but goals from Cole Palmer and Fernandez turned the tide.
However, Justin Kluivert’s goal brought an end to a mad first half an hour, and Chelsea were unable to take the lead again.
The Blues were unable to beat the Cherries in either game this season, and those results will catch up with any side with big ambitions.
Chelsea 2-2 Leeds
Arguably the worst of the bunch, Chelsea flew into a 2-0 lead in the second half, however threw away the opportunity to get revenge on their old rivals.
Multiple defensive frailties came to the forefront in West London, seeing them concede two in quick succession.
Chelsea had a glorious chance to win the game in the final seconds, however Palmer blazed over from close range.
Chelsea 1-1 Burnley
The latest example that saw the tally of dropped points from winning positions to 19 so far this season.
After Fofana’s dismissal, Chelsea were perhaps lucky to even leave the game with a point. Burnley missed a golden chance late on.
Rosenior has so far been unable to put an end to this toxic part of their game, and it is looking as if it could cost them a place in the top five.
