As new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak finalizes his assistant coaching staff, the new hire that most stands out is the promotion of Rob Leonard.
Leonard served as the Raiders’ defensive line coach for the past three seasons under three different head coaches. Now, he will be Kubiak’s defensive coordinator. It the most important position on Kubiak’s staff as he will handle calling the offensive plays.
It is Leonard’s job to improve the defense.
He was one of four known candidates. Leonard, 38, is a well-respected assistant, but he has no coordinator experience. Reportedly, the Raiders’ brass badly wanted to keep him in Las Vegas and believe he is a rising coaching star.
How do you feel about his promotion? Are you board or are you worried about his experience and you’d rather see an outside hire be brought in to lead the Silver and Black’s defense?
