The Detroit Lions got some early schedule news this week, and it’s something that will make star WR Amon-Ra St. Brown very happy. On Tuesday, the NFL announced that the Lions will be one of the teams playing in the 2026 Munich game. St. Brown’s mother is from Germany and the decorated receiver has spent a lot of time there, including running youth football camps.
“It has been a dream of mine to play a game in my mother’s home country of Germany since coming to the league,” St. Brown said. “I cannot wait to play in front of the incredible fans that I’ve gotten to know through my visits and football camps in the country. Their support for me and the country’s instant connection to the Lions brand is inspiring, and I’m looking forward to our team getting to showcase Detroit football on an international scale.”
The Lions’ opponent and the game’s date will be announced with the rest of the NFL schedule in a few months.

“Germany continues to be a key market in the NFL’s international growth ambitions, with Europe’s largest fanbase,” said NFL Germany General Manager Alexander Steinforth. “We are excited to welcome the Detroit Lions to play in the 2026 NFL Munich game — and in partnership with the Lions, FC Bayern Munich and the City of Munich, we look forward to bringing an incredible NFL experience to fans across the region in the NFL 2026 season.”
“We are thrilled to be playing internationally and specifically in Munich for the 2026 season,” said Detroit Lions president & CEO Rod Wood. “As an organization, we have invested greatly in the German market and are excited to play in front of our passionate German fans.”
The Munich game, featuring Detroit, is one of eight international games the NFL will sponsor this year. That’s the most international games in a single season in league history. There’s a continued push to make the NFL more global, and St. Brown’s Lions will get to debut in Munich this year.
The Detroit Lions Are Looking for a Bounce-Back Season
The Lions have been in the midst of a resurgence under current HC Dan Campbell, but 2025 was the first time under his leadership the team fell short of expectations. A year after earning the NFC’s No. 1 seed, Detroit missed the playoffs altogether. Not only that, but the Lions had to watch their former superstar offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, take over the Bears and lead them to a division title and playoff win.
To reclaim the NFC North crown and make it back to the playoffs, the Lions need to get better in the secondary and along the offensive line. That’s easier said than done, but they do have some assets to dedicate to both position groups. At the very least, better injury luck and more health should help the Lions — though that can be difficult to rely on at times.
