As Arsenal U21s swept aside Reading last night it was notable that each of the attacking trio who started the game managed to get on the scoresheet in impressive fashion.

Recent signing Evan Mooney opened his account for the club with a spectacular lofted effort from distance.

Andre Harriman-Annous, who has been deployed on the left flank of late, then scored an excellent goal after cutting inside from that position.

Ceadach O’Neill, meanwhile, is looking to step up to the U21s on a regular basis and he did his chances of achieving that objective no harm at all by scoring a fine goal following a cross from Marcell Washington.

It is important to note that this attacking triumvirate isn’t set in stone either, with first year Brando Bailey-Joseph having also stepped up at this level recently.

Last night it was notable that Mooney and Harriman-Annous often combined to excellent effect, especially when the ball was on the left flank.

The intriguing aspect of this trio is that they are so flexible, which provides coach Max Porter with a myriad of options.

Mooney can play up front or on the right wing, with Harriman-Annous also possessing a wealth of experience as a central striker at this level.

O’Neill can play on the right or left wing and has had some very good performances centrally at U18 level.

All three of these players are still eligible to play for the U18s until the end of the season but they are very much part of the U21 squad and it will be intrigue to see how many goals they can each contribute.

The trio are effectively in competition with each other in terms of attempting to break into the senior squad but, as they showed last night, they are also capable of linking up very well when lining up alongside each other.
