Time is ticking for Barcelona to decide whether or not to sign Manchester United star Marcus Rashford permanently.

There is a £26 million buy option for Marcus Rashford attached to his loan deal from Manchester United to Barcelona. It is up to the Spanish giants to decide whether or not to trigger it.

While Barcelona want to negotiate a lower Rashford fee, United are standing strong and insisting the full clause is paid. Michael Carrick is open to Rashford returning to Old Trafford, but it seems talks over a permanent move to Spain are well underway.

Marcus Rashford prepared to take wage cut to join Barcelona

On his current deal at United, Rashford is earning £300,000 per week, making him one of the club’s top earners.

Barcelona have financial problems at the moment, which is why they are eager for a cheaper Rashford deal. The report from Spain adds that Rashford is open to taking a wage cut in order to help a permanent move to Catalonia.

If there was any confusion about whether Rashford wanted to return to Manchester or not, his willingness to make a financial sacrifice speaks volumes about his desire to join Barcelona.

United insist that Barcelona will have to pay the full £26 million fee for Rashford, and then they will have to negotiate personal terms with the 28-year-old forward.

Rashford’s agents holding talks with Deco in Barcelona suggests this process is underway ahead of the 2026 summer transfer window.

Marcus Rashford faces £35,000 fine if he repeats Man Utd mistake

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is a big admirer of Rashford, and he is one of the key figures pushing for a permanent deal this summer.

But Rashford has faced disciplinary issues under the Barcelona boss for being late this season.

Rashford was once dropped by Erik ten Hag for being late for a match against Wolves, although he later came on to rescue the Red Devils from the bench.

Barca star Ferran Torres recently revealed that Flick has now introduced a new rule that will see players fined £35,000 (€40,000) if they are late on a matchday.

It’s an expensive mistake if Rashford repeats what he did at United.
