Patriots Double Down On Will Campbell Decision After Terrible Super Bowl Performance

The New England Patriots lost the Super Bowl to the Seattle Seahawks, and Will Campbell had a rough outing overall.

Campbell was constantly beaten and never looked comfortable against the Seahawks. It capped off an inconsistent season for the No. 4 overall pick, and it raised questions as to whether the Patriots should move Campbell to guard. Mike Vrabel quickly shut those questions down, saying the Patriots would not consider doing so.

As the NFL Combine approaches, Patriots Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf doubled down by saying Campbell would remain at left tackle.

“We’re not moving him to guard. I would say three of his four worst games happen to come in the playoffs post injury," Wolf said on "The McShay Show" on Monday. "He was healthy, but I think he’d be the first to tell you that maybe he wasn’t able to anchor the same way he had with the knee injury.”

Campbell suffered a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve last season. He came back and played in the playoffs, but he did not play at his best. Campbell did not speak to reporters in the locker room after the Super Bowl loss, but he later noted that he tore a ligament in his knee that he played through.

The Patriots invested a high draft pick in Campbell, and they still believe in him to protect Drake Maye's blindside. He will need to improve, but hopefully getting healthy again gets him back on track.
