Newcastle United stance on Anthony Gordon transfer revealed

Anthony Gordon has poured cold water on renewed talk of a blockbuster switch to Liverpool – just as speculation around Anfield interest has flared up again.

Gordon has been one of the standout performers in this season’s Champions League, with a stunning four-goal haul in Newcastle’s 6-1 first‑leg win over Qarabag in Azerbaijan last week. The 24‑year‑old now sits on 10 goals in Europe this season.

Those numbers have inevitably drawn fresh links to Liverpool, who are expected to target at least one wide forward as the Arne Slot era continues to evolve.

After his Qarabag masterclass, Gordon was asked directly about the renewed rumours linking him with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United – and he did not mince his words. The winger branded the latest talk of a move away from St James’ Park as “a load of rubbish”, insisting he has no intention of letting speculation derail his season.

Gordon admitted that the Liverpool saga in the summer of 2024 – when Newcastle’s PSR situation brought him close to an Anfield move – did affect his form at the time, but stressed he has learned from that experience and is now fully focused on Newcastle and the current campaign.

He maintains that he is happy on Tyneside and will not be drawn into looking “too far into the future” while Eddie Howe’s side are still fighting on multiple fronts.

Now talkSPORT have provided an update, with Alex Crook asserting that Newcastle are holding fast and are not planning to let Gordon go this coming summer window:

“Newcastle have no plans to cash in on in-form Anthony Gordon, talkSPORT understands. Gordon’s excellent recent form of seven goals in his last 12 games has put clubs higher up the table on alert, while the England international came close to joining Liverpool two years ago.”

“Links over a possible move to Liverpool remain. Despite graduating from the Everton academy, Gordon began his youth career on the red half of Merseyside and is a boyhood Liverpool fan.”

“Crucially for Newcastle, months after that Anfield move fell through Gordon penned a new contract keeping him at St James Park until the summer of 2028.”

“That deal is not thought to include a release clause.”
