Sergio Aguero, the Man City hero has been taken aback. The striker who has won five Premier League titles with city now declares that Arsenal are good enough to finally win the league this season. Yet Aguero believes that the Gunners are not the same.

Arsenal Sitting Pretty at the Top

The Premier League top has Arsenal by five points. They arrived there following a superb 4-1 victory on Sunday in the north London derby against Tottenham. Viktor Gyokeres (2) and Eberechi Eze (1) scored and the team appeared to be in good form.

This follows the fact that Arsenal only came second over the past three seasons. The fans feared that they could re-bottle the same, but the team has been able to win three of their final eight league matches and remain at the top. The Manchester City still have a game behind and are doing their best, yet Arsenal have an opportunity being 10 games behind.

Aguero: “It’s Not a Weak Mentality”

Sergio Aguero spoke out clearly. “It’s not a question of a weak mentality. Not now, at least,” he said. “The team has a very complete, balanced squad with much more experience than in the recent past. They’ve been through this before and narrowly missed out. And today you can see that they have a stronger mentality.”

The City legend pointed to Arsenal’s young players growing up and new signings fitting in well. “The young players have grown up, they’ve brought in some very good players, and it shows,” he added. This comes as a shock because Aguero is a true City icon. Many City fans hoped he would say his old team would catch up easily.

🗣️Sergio Aguero on just how good of a manager #Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is: “Arteta has proven himself to be a great manager. He has built a solid team that knows how to play and is now always in contention for the title. Let’s remember how many years it has been since Arsenal… pic.twitter.com/nd0MWn0JS9

Big Praise for Gyokeres and Arteta

Sergio Aguero singled out new striker Viktor Gyokeres for special praise. “He had an initial period of adjustment, but in recent months he has found his best form and rediscovered his scoring touch. He is a very complete and powerful striker.”

Aguero also backed manager Mikel Arteta. “Arteta has proven himself to be a great manager. He has built a solid team that knows how to play and is now always in contention for the title,” Aguero said. “Let’s remember how many years it has been since Arsenal won the Premier League. And how close they have come to doing so in recent years. I think if you ask Arsenal fans, they will want Arteta to stay at the club for a long time to come.”

City Are Still Dangerous, Says Aguero

Even though he likes Arsenal’s chances, Aguero warned the Gunners not to relax. “City never gives up. They keep up the pressure on the teams above them. And they’ve often come from behind to win the title at the end of the season,” he said.

City have taken 13 points from their last 15 and beat Newcastle recently with big celebrations. Aguero noted some changes at City – stars like Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan have left – but the team is still fighting. “How can you not feel threatened by a team that never stops fighting?” he asked.

Can Arsenal Finally End the Wait?

Then, Arsenal has some hard matches, and they have five points of an advantage on their side and the momentum of the victory against Spurs. City will strain, though, should Arsenal continue with this level of performance Aguero might be right in his prediction of a shock. The title race is heating up. Arsenal supporters will be delighted to hear one of the City giants believing in them.
