Rio Ngumoha speaks & Liverpool ‘contact’ Hungary international – Latest LFC News

The father of Galatasaray right-back Roland Sallai has been talking up a move to Liverpool, and Rio Ngumoha has explained why he thinks he needs more minutes.

Roland Sallai’s father claims “contact has already been made” by Liverpool

Liverpool already have three Hungarians in and around the first team, and if Sallai’s father is to be believed, they could soon add his son to that list.

The right-back, who has played in attack on occasion, has one goal and six assists in 33 appearances this season.

Tibor Sallai has told Blikk that Liverpool “could be” the Galatasaray full-back’s next destination.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if this club change happened now,” said Sallai Sr.

“I know that contact has already been made through a management office. I don’t want to and I don’t want to shout anything, but my son will really have a good chance [of leaving] in the summer if there is an offer that is also beneficial for Galatasaray.”

There were some rumours of interest from Liverpool in January, but no reliable sources ever reported the story.

It would be a surprise if the Reds were to invest in a 28-year-old right-back, given the presence of Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong.

However, should their injury problems persist, it stands to reason that Liverpool could bring in a ‘safe pair of hands’ to have around for the time being.

There have been increasingly loud calls for Ngumoha to feature more often after another impressive showing from the bench against Nottingham Forest. Danny Gallagher agrees with them:

“There will always be a huge argument for managing the minutes of young, highly talented footballers. Liverpool are certainly doing this, but the layers of bubble wrap are now far too tightly applied.

“We’re approaching the end of February, and there are 11 league fixtures to play. This isn’t a case of flogging a precocious talent and overworking his supple hamstrings to death.”

Liverpool FC: On this day

It was on February 24, 2007 that Robbie Fowler scored his last Liverpool goals, netting two first-half penalties in a 4-0 win over Sheffield United.

Three days earlier, Liverpool had beaten Barcelona 2-1 in the Nou Camp and things were looking good for the Reds, with Javier Mascherano making his debut at Anfield and contributing to the Reds’ ninth consecutive home clean sheet in the league.

The second half saw Sami Hyypia and Steven Gerrard add to Fowler’s brace, but Peter Crouch had a less enjoyable evening, breaking his nose when he was hit by a high boot.
