While all the attention on the Miami Dolphins will be on the quarterback position this offseason, new head coach Jeff Hafley has pointed out another focus for the team.
We all know the deal at quarterback: all signs are pointing to the Dolphins cutting ties with Tua Tagovailoa, either through trade or release, and that figures to put Miami in the market for a new quarterback.
Another position the team will be focused on, according to Hafley, is the edge rusher spot, where the cupboard is extremely bare.
“The edge rusher position, we need to fill that room up,” Hafley said, per David Furones of the Sun Sentinel.
No surprise Hafley is worried about the edge.
After all it's a premium position and if anyone understands just how valuable that position is, it's a defensive-minded coach like Hafley.
The Dolphins have made two massive subtractions along the edge dating back to the trade deadline last season.
Miami jettisoned Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles last November and has reportedly released veteran Bradley Chubb, which was expected.
The bad news for the Dolphins when it comes to finding quick fixes in free agency is the team is in rough shape financially, with Miami sitting with just $3.1 million in cap space, which will make it hard to compete for such a coveted position.
The good news is, this year's draft class is thought to be loaded with talent at edge rusher. As a result, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Dolphins double-dip at the position over the three-day event.
