The Green Bay Packers have not had a good recent history of being able to retain (or wanting to retain) defensive coordinators in recent history. Following the nine-year run that Dom Capers had in Green Bay, the Packers have gone through three different defensive coordinators: Mike Pettine, Joe Barry, and Jeff Hafley.
Jonathan Gannon was hired this off-season following Hafley’s departure to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Barry, who was hired by Miami as their linebackers coach after he was fired by the Packers, is staying on his staff.
Pettine, who spent the last few years with the Minnesota Vikings, announced his retirement from coaching earlier this winter.
And Capers, at 75 years old, just landed a new NFL job.

Capers
Since he was let go by Green Bay following the 2017 NFL season, Capers has bounced around the league a bit, having been hired as a senior defensive analyst by multiple teams.
From 2023-2025, he was on staff with the Carolina Panthers, the organization he was head coach of from 1995-1998.
Now, he is heading to the Cleveland Browns as a senior defensive analyst:

Cleveland recently saw their defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, resign from his position after he was passed over for head coach. He was replaced by Mike Rutenburg, and Capers, a long-time NFL coach, will provide great insight to the first-time defensive coordinator.
Capers also previously was the head coach of the Houston Texans. He had defensive coordinator roles with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Miami Dolphins before he came to Green Bay.
