Chelsea have a decision to make regarding the player’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge this summer
Chelsea are ‘reluctant’ to let Liam Delap leave this summer amid interest from Everton, according to a report by Football Insider. The Blues are keen to keep hold of the striker for next season. He is under contract at Stamford Bridge until June 2031.
Liam Rosenior’s side are positioned in 5th place in the Premier League table after 27 fixtures. They are above Liverpool in 6th on goal difference. The London outfit drew 1-1 with Burnley at home last time out.
Chelsea transfer stance on Liam Delap amid Everton interest
Chelsea only signed Delap last year from Ipswich Town. He was snapped up by the Blues to bolster their attacking department. The striker gives them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch.
Delap, 23, has made 25 appearances in all competitions in this campaign, 18 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with two goals and four assists. He hasn’t been able to find his shooting boost yet since his transfer. Nevertheless, he still has plenty of time left on his side.
He joined Manchester City as a youngster from Derby County back in 2019 and went on to play six times for the first-team at the Etihad Stadium under Pep Guardiola. The ex-England youth international was loaned out by City to Stoke City, Preston North End and Hull City in the Championship to get some experience under his belt and to boost his development. Ipswich then came calling on a permanent basis in 2024.
What now for Chelsea after Burnley draw?
Chelsea face a tricky away trip to the Emirates Stadium this weekend to play Arsenal. Speaking after their match against Burnley, Rosenior said: **"**What has happened with me is we have set fire to four points from two home games. Anyone watching the game, it's not good enough for a club of this level. It's not good enough for me to come and say we were the better team. We need to be the better team in every game. We need to win games of football.
"I know what the answer is and we will address it in the week. There's an inquest after every game, whether we win or lose. I'm learning about the players. I'm learning about the people you can lean on when things aren't going your way and you need to see a game out. That's something we need to address very quickly."
