Antonio Gibson and his wife, Victoria, sent messages to the Patriots after the team released him
There’s no doubt that the New England Patriots exceeded expectations in 2025, as they went from winning just four games in 2024 to making it all the way to Super Bowl LX this year. The Pats didn’t come out on top in that game, though, meaning it’s back to the drawing board for the team as it looks to win its seventh championship.
New England has some important decisions it has to make on its own players, as it could look to move on from several veterans in an effort to clear up some cap space. On Monday, the first domino in that department fell, as running back Antonio Gibson was released by the team. In the wake of this move, Gibson and his wife, Victoria, sent messages to the Pats on social media.
Antonio Gibson and His Wife React to Patriots’ Release
Gibson entered the 2025 campaign as a bit of an afterthought in New England’s running back room, but he quickly earned a big role on offense alongside Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson. In five games, Gibson racked up 106 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, while also catching two passes for six yards.
In Week 5, Gibson’s season came to a screeching halt, as he suffered a torn ACL in the team’s statement victory over the Buffalo Bills. With Stevenson and Henderson turning themselves into a top-tier duo in Gibson’s absence, the team decided to release him, saving $3.14 million in cap space in the process.
Gibson and his wife appear to have somewhat different reactions to the Pats’ decision to release him. In a post on Instagram, Victoria seemed to take a subtle jab at the team, as she uploaded a video of her doing a dance to Rihanna’s popular song, “Work,” with some folks noting the lyrics of the song in the clip. Antonio, on the other hand, thanked the Patriots in his own post on Instagram.
“Thank you to the organization and the fans for the support and belief but the journey continues and the best is yet to come…🙏🏾💯,” Gibson wrote in a post on Instagram.

In Gibson’s absence, Terrell Jennings emerged as the Patriots’ No. 3 running back, but he didn’t exactly impress during his limited action on the field. As a result, New England could look to use its new cap savings to find Gibson’s replacement, whether that be in free agency or on the final day of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Of course, it’s worth noting that the running back position is likely quite low on the list of the team’s offseason priorities for the time being. New England’s main goal this offseason will involve finding upgrades at spots like offensive line, wide receiver, and defensive end. As for Gibson, his tenure with the Pats certainly ended on a sour note, but he should draw interest across the league this offseason, even as he continues to work his way back from his serious season-ending injury.
