CBS misses the boat on Broncos' biggest offseason need by wide margin

The Denver Broncos are eagerly waiting to attack this offseason, which means finding enhancements to the roster through free agency and the NFL draft. Deciding which is the best plan of attack is up for debate.

The Broncos will have several of their own free agents to make big decisions on before deciding which players to add to the roster to make a run at reaching the Super Bowl next year. If you were to choose the biggest position of need, what would it be?

How many of you said tight end? That was the answer given by Josh Edwards of CBS Sports.

The tight end position has always been a big part of Sean Payton's offenses and Evan Engram simply did not deliver in that regard. Denver was also actively looking for wide receiver help at the trade deadline, so there is obviously a belief that it needs to be more dynamic in the pass game.

Linebacker could once again be targeted with Alex Singleton, Justin Strnad hitting free agency and Dre Greenlaw struggling to stay healthy", wrote Edwards.

Broncos need much more before adding another tight end

You can argue that both of the other positions mentioned there by Edwards — wide receiver and linebacker — are bigger needs than tight end. You can easily throw running back in there, too.

Yes, Evan Engram was a disappointment in 2025, but he wasn't that bad and it's a bit absurd to completely write him off already. The Broncos can get to the Super Bowl with Engram and Adam Trautman as their tight ends. They won't get there without more help in the running game and a more dynamic pass-catcher for Bo Nix to throw the ball to.

If there is any chance that the team can fall into this scenario, where it has Oregon's Kenyon Sadiq sitting on the board at No. 30 in the first round, he must be the selection. That would instantly add the big-play tight end fans have been looking for. However, with free agency coming before the draft, the Broncos should have already added a wide receiver and a running back prior to this, meaning a selection of Sadiq would be icing on the cake.
