Sam Allardyce says what Chelsea should do with Wesley Fofana after red card

Sam Allardyce hasn’t held back on Chelsea’s current defensive woes, suggesting that Liam Rosenior must implement a no-nonsense disciplinary overhaul for Wesley Fofana following his red card.

The discipline of the Chelsea players is still a big issue under Liam Rosenior. However, this is a problem that he inherited from Enzo Maresca’s reign.

Chelsea have suffered six red cards in the Premier League this season, which is two more than Everton.

But Rosenior doesn’t seem too bothered, and Maresca wasn’t bothered about the disciplinary problem, suggesting it wasn’t a cause for concer.

Rather than setting an example with Wesley Fofana, Rosenior decided to say it wasn’t his fault that they lost and that it was on his team’s defending instead.

Nothing will change unless harsher punishment is put in place.

Sam Allardyce suggests a stern chat with Wesley Fofana

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Sam Allardyce has told Liam Rosenior to clamp down on Wesley Fofana and his Chelsea teammates ahead of the weekend.

“Chelsea should be there because they have got the strength and depth of the squad.

“But obviously they’ve got discipline problems. Fofana getting sent off and you know it’s you know this is where somewhere where as a manager I would clamp down I would, well before this this weekend of have cut this out and said you know this is not this is not acceptable.”

It’s not just disciplinary issues either, as the Blues have dropped 17 points from winning positions in the Premier League this season. Suggesting a deeper issue.

What should Chelsea do stop the disciplinary issues?

To end Chelsea’s disciplinary crisis, the club must pivot from a culture of patience to one of cold, hard accountability. As Sam Allardyce suggested following Wesley Fofana’s red card against Burnley, Liam Rosenior must implement a no-nonsense fine system that hits players’ pockets for avoidable dismissals.

When a team has already equalled its record of eight red cards in a single season with months still to play, it is no longer an inexperience issue, it is a lack of respect for the game state.

Moving forward, Chelsea should reintroduce a senior leadership council to police the dressing room, bridging the gap left by veterans like Thiago Silva. On the pitch, Rosenior must be willing to bench the offenders, regardless of their price tag or potential.
